PROBLEM:
I’ve noticed that my phone charger gets warm, even when my phone isn’t plugged into it. Is this dangerous?
SOLUTION:
Your charger heats up because it is still drawing electricity from the outlet, even if your phone isn’t connected to the charger. It is not dangerous, but it is a waste of electricity. Some estimates say that as much as 95% of the power drawn by cell phone chargers annually is wasted. It’s best to unplug your charger when your phone is not charging.
PROBLEM:
My battery either doesn’t hold a charge or can’t be charged up.
SOLUTION:
If your battery doesn’t seem to hold its charge long enough, you may be able to adjust your phone’s settings to conserve energy. BlackBerry users, for instance, can program their devices to turn off automatically during certain times of day. To do this, click the Menu key, choose Options, then select Auto On/Off. From there you’ll be able to set the times at which it will automatically turn on and off. There is one setting for weekdays and another for weekends. Another way to extend your battery life is to turn Bluetooth off when you’re not using it. Keep in mind that for optimal battery life, you should let your battery run almost all the way down before recharging. If your phone won’t charge up at all, try cleaning the contacts of your phone and battery. If that doesn’t help, try a new battery and/or charger. If a new battery and charger don’t solve the problem, the issue is with your phone and you should contact the manufacturer.
PROBLEM:
How do I charge the battery?
Note: New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before using your phone, you should the charge the battery. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles.
SOLUTION:
To charge the battery:
Plug the charger into the phone.
Plug the other end of the charger into the appropriate electrical outlet.
Note: Your phone may take several seconds to start charging the battery.
Most phones will display "Charge Complete" when finished charging.
Remove the charger from the phone.
Tip: You can safely leave the charger connected to the phone after the charging is complete. This will not damage the battery. When charging the battery, the battery level indicator will display how much of the charging process is complete. At least one segment of the battery level indicator must be visible to ensure full phone functionality while charging.
PROBLEM:
My phone displays "Unable to Charge". What is wrong?
SOLUTION:
"Unable to Charge" is displayed when there is miscommunication between your phone, battery, &/or the charger for your cellular phone. Usually cleaning the contacts of your phone and battery or replacing the battery &/or charger will resolve the problem. If two or more batteries and chargers cause the phone to display "Unable to Charge," we would assume there is a problem with the cellular phone itself. We recommend first taking the phone GTel at 210 Main Street in Germantown.
PROBLEM:
Sometimes my cell phone drops a call.
SOLUTION:
There could be any number of problems causing dropped calls. If you can’t connect, the network might be busy. Try hanging up and making the call a few moments later. You should also make sure that your cell phone battery is fully charged. A low battery can affect the transmitter or receiver in your cell phone handset. You can also try cycling the power of your handset. As with all other technology, sometimes turning it off and then on again can fix the problem. If none of these things work, you might be in an area where coverage is low.
PROBLEM:
Is my phone set up and programmed correctly?
SOLUTION:
Press Menu then #. If you do not see your phone number, then the phone is not set up correctly and you will need to contact GTel at 537-GTEL (4835).
